Antonije Hadžić, cultural worker (Subotica, 1831-Novi Sad, 1916). He was
appointed secretary of
and editor
of the Letopis at the General Assembly session on 10th
(22nd) August 1859. He held the editorial post from 1859 to 1869,
and from 1876 to 1895. As editor, he particularly stood out in the second
period of his term. His editorial policy was reflection of new political
tendencies and the orientation of the young Serbian middle-class towards the
European democratic and liberal ideals. His editorial articles in
Letopis, therefore, are more about the history of Matica Srpska than of
Pest - Before
Budapest - Now
to
Novi Sad - Before
Novi Sad - Now
(1864), and the
first volume of the journal in Novi Sad was published in 1865. He was an
active member of the United Serbian Youth and editor of its journal
Matica (1865–1870) and of Mlada Srbadija (1870–1871). Director
of the Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad until 1879, and founder and editor
of the Pozorište newspaper.
