Marko Maletin, professor, secretary of Matica Srpska, theater director
(Novi Sad, 1890-Sremski Karlovci, 1968). He was appointed secretary of
and editor
of Letopis in 1923, when he initiated foundation of the Archives
Department in the
. As
the editor of Letopis (1924-1929), he made the journal broaden its
scope and, with its regular publication (usually once a month), bring it
somewhat closer to more modern trends of Serbian literature, including younger
writers (V. Petrović, I. Sekulić, M. Crnjanski , D. Maksimović, R. Drainac,
and others). He paid a lot of attention to scientific and social issues (M.
Milanković, B. Petronijević, S. Jovanović, S. Boškan, and others). He
occasionally published literary criticism (about E. Adi, D. Vasiljev, T.
Ostojić, etc.). He managed to turn Letopis into an up-to-date monthly
publication that follows literary, cultural, economic and political life. He
is credited with the first partially compiled bibliography of the magazine. He
was one of the key organizers of the commemoration of the centenary of the
founding of Matica Srpska, when the memorial Matica srpska 1826-1926
was published.
