Milan Savić, professor, writer, translator and theater critic (Nova Kanjiža,
1845-Belgrade, 1930). A versatile writer (short story, drama, poetry), he is
more important as a literary critic and portraitist (of S. Miletić, L. Kostić,
K. Trifković). One of the editors of the Novi Sad newspapers Javor and
Stražilovo. He played a major role in the literary work of L. Kostić
and S. Matavulj. He became a member of
in 1867, a
member of the Literary Department (1874), deputy secretary (1877-1895) and
secretary (1895-1911) of Matica Srpska. Editor of Letopis from 1896 to
1912. Under Savić's editorship, Letopis combined literary (fiction) and
scientific works (history, philosophy). He also edited Work and Directory of
Matica srpska, and under his editorship the commemorative
Life and Work of Dr. Jovan Hadžić Svetić (1899) was published.
