The concept of the Matica Srpska Gazette was based on the communication of yearly reports from Matica Srpska and institutions it has founded as well as the information concerning Matica Srpska's new publications and held literary evenings. Apart from that there was a short commercial space with ads from renowned craftsmen and businesses such as the «Korzo» confectioners shop, «Drvopromet» factory, City Magazine... The last issue was published on November 29th 1949. Since than, information on the work of Matica Srpska and its institutions was periodically published in the Chronicle and later in the Work of Matica Srpska, which is published annually.
New series of the Matica Srpska Gazette was started some sixty years later. This decision was made by the Executive Board of Matica Srpska in the session held on May 19th 2008, at the proposal of Dušan Nikolić – the Secretary General of Matica Srpska. The gazette was started to insure that the general public and associates of Matica Srpska are regularly and fully informed on the activities of the oldest cultural and scientific institution of the Serbian nation. The Gazetteis used to publish brief information on day to day activities of senior honorees, scientific associates and members of Administrative Services of Matica Srpska, Matica Srpska Library, Matica Srpska Gallery and Matica Srpska Publishing Center. The gazette features a retrospective of events from the previous month and announcements of events for the next month. Occasionally, thematic pieces with extensive texts on significant activities and notable individuals are published as well. Information concerning new publications from Matica Srpska and its institutions is printed at the back of the Gazette Unlike its first incarnation, the new Gazette is published monthly in one or two size A4 printer's sheets. The texts are framed in two columns, with photographs and other graphic additions printed in full color and on quality paper. All issues are available in electronic form on Matica Srpska's official web site at www.maticasrpska.org.rs. Editorial Board of the Matica Srpska Gazette: Aleksandra Jovanović, Vukica Tucakov and Ljiljana Dražić (from Matica Srpska), Silvija Čamber and Ivana Grgurić (from the Matica Srpska Library) and Snežana Mišić (from the Matica Srpska Gallery); Branislav Lučić and Saša Kulić are in charge of the photographs, Vladimir Vatić is in charge of the page layout. Vladimir Šovljanski is the lector and corrector. Editor in chief of the Gazette is prof. dr Dušan Nikolić, Secretary General of Matica Srpska. Matica Srpska Gazette was started in 1946 on the initiative of Živan Milisavac, than the Secretary General of Matica Srpska, who was elected for the first editor of the Gazette. Until 1949 the Gazette was published periodically in one or two size B5 printer's sheets. In three years a total of 12 volumes were published.
